Warren Martin. Auctioneer.
Founder of Martin Auction.
Illinois State Auctioneer Hall of Fame.
Warren was an aspiring auctioneer who settled in central Illinois after hitchhiking north from Sesser and running out of money when he hit Decatur. He put down roots when he married Mary Dial of Clinton and started a family. He began pursuing his dream when he attended Reppert School of Auctioneering in 1947. His first salebarn was the East Main Salebarn in Clinton. He then began selling purebred hogs across the country and later selling purebred angus cattle. Warren progressed from selling pies as a boy to becoming a highly sought after auctioneer of livestock and farm equipment. He was the first to build an auction truck and cashier trailer but refused to patent it as his only interest was to improve not only his own business but the auction industry as a whole. Warren was enthusiastic and innovative in the auction profession and became a highly regarded auctioneer earning a place in the Illinois State Auctioneer Hall of Fame. After retiring from the day to day operations at Martin Auction he and his wife, Phylis, bought and rebuilt the Arthur Salebarn and Warren continued his work in the auction industry another decade before he truly retired. Warren Martin passed away in 2003 but his legacy lives on at Martin Auction Services, LLC.
